We will be practising our times tables every day in school, so it would be really helpful if you could help your child to learn them at home as well. (The Year 4 objective is that all children should be able to recall all tables facts up to 12 x 12)
Your child has a Times Tables Rockstars login, where they can practise all the times tables in the guise of exciting games, and earn tables coins as rewards.
Your child should have Bug Club login. Visit https://www.activelearnprimary.co.uk/login?c=0 to log on. The user name and password should be in their organiser/diary and the school code is rsms. Please see your child's teacher if you cannot log into the account.
Your child will also have spellings to learn every week. These may be keywords which we need to know how to spell by the end of Year 4, or words that follow a spelling rule. Spelling are given out on at the start of each half term and the weekly test is each Friday. Please help your child to learn them by testing them using look, say, cover, write check. It is also important that they understand the meaning of the words that they are learning.
Reading Diaries are regularly checked and children are expected to read at least 3 times a week at home; once by Wednesday and three times by Friday. Please read with your child and write in their diary to say what book and pages and how they read. Reading books and diaries should be brought to school each day.
If you would like any support to help your child at home with any aspects of learning, please see your child's teacher and we will be happy to provide you with relevant materials.
Here you will find the newsletters for each term, which will provide you with more detailed information about your child's learning and also highlight key dates for your diaries.
In this area you will find information about National Curriculum expectations for the end of year 4.
We have included a list of non-negotiables for reading, writing and maths and have also provided the year 3/4 spelling list.
In addition, there is a glossary of grammar terms, which will enable you to support your child's understanding.
You can also see our current topic web, which will show you what your child will be learning about in school; this term our topic is 'Extreme Weather'.
