Spring Term: The Plague and the Great Fire of London
We started our topic by looking at a map of London and used co-ordinates to locate London landmarks. We used the books ‘The Queen’s hat’ and ‘The Queen’s handbag’ by Steve Antony to learn about famous landmarks in London and across the UK. We sketched some of these landmarks in our sketch books. We researched the history of London Bridge and during our science lessons we investigated which shapes make the strongest bridge.
We have enjoyed learning interesting facts about the Plague and The Great Fire of London. We even went into the hall to role play putting out the fire.
To help us understand why the fire spread quickly we made our own houses to create Pudding Lane. We stood back as Miss Gheith set the bakery on fire and watched how the wind blew the fire from house to house.
There was lots of excitement and enthusiasm around writing about The Great Fire of London from the point of view of the fire. Some super pieces of writing, well done Year 2!
