A typical day in Reception

Our day begins at 9:00am and once the children arrive we begin the day with a 'busy job'. At the moment we are practicing writing our full names, then moving on to writing the tricky words we have been learning. Practice makes perfect!

Everyday as part of their daily routine children are taught phonics, maths, literacy and Penpals, which is our handwriting scheme. The children are also able to freely access the snack each morning, learning to 'sign in' once they have eaten.

In addition, each week the children will also experience mindfulness activites such as Cosmic Yoga, develop their motor skills through P.E. and Dough Disco, explore expressive arts and design through music and develop their understanding of the world around them through Forest Schools. They also regularly widen their experiences of books through library time.

The Reception classroom provides a high quality continous provision, which is topic related and updated regularly. Children have the opportunity to explore this freely throughout the day, applying their knowledge and developing it further whilst also building their characteristics of learning.

Hometime is at 3:00pm and your child is to be collected from their classroom door.

Exciting News!

This year children in reception are again taking part in an exciting tooth brushing government initiative which is currently being run across the North West. Everyday the children brush their teeth after lunch, raising their awareness and understanding of oral hygiene.
