Health Champions is a new initiative launched in Hodge Clough in 2017.
We selected two Year 6 pupils to attend the initial training sessions. During the course of the year there would be three main themes; Healthy Me, Happy Me and Active Me. Oliver and Ellie then returned to school with the task of assessing what and how we currently teach about health in school and how the Health Champions could improve on this. We decided we needed a workforce so Year 6s were invited to apply for a position on our committee; the six Helath Champions were given a uniform to raise their profile and set about planning.
- We talked to other pupils, we surveyed our local area to see what businesses promoted health related issues and we also quickly realised that our parents play a vital role and wanted to get them involved. So, what better way to do this than with our first ever Health Fair! (see event page). The fair was so successful and parents were really positive that we planned two more events for the term.
- We held a 'Be Sugar Smart' day in school running alongside the Change for Life initiative. (see event page). Following on from this, our fruit trolley became the 'Snack Trolley'.
- Just before Christmas we had a fantastic community Jingle Jog too. (see event page).
- In March we will have a whole school WOW Day. There will be lots of interactive sessions including sensory trays, breathing exercises, positive thoughts etc.
