Science National Curriculum


3 Main Aims:


develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics
develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science
enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them
•are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future


Science at our school
In Science we learn lots of interesting facts about animals, humans, plants, electricity, sound, space and many more. See the overview below to find out what your child will be learning about this year!
A lot of science is taught through the five different types of enquiry. These are:
  • Observations
  • Pattern seeking
  • Identifying, classifying and grouping
  • Comparative and fair testing 
  • Research using secondary sources

This year Hodge Clough Primary are working hard to further raise the profile of Science in our school and community.


Science activities throughout the year


4th January 2019 - Science activity day

This is where children will take part in a carousel of science investigations.

4th February 2019 - Science week

During this week we will take part in a range of activities including a whole school challenge, science workshops/show, a 'dress as a scientist' day, a science fair and a home quiz/activity.

Half term Home activity

Each half term the final news letter will also contain an activity which would be fun to carry out with your child at home! We look forward to hearing all about them!!

An upcoming Summer Science project

During the Summer term we will be launching a home science project.
